Manifesting - Mel Robbins' Interview with Dr. Jay Doty

Sometimes you stumble across something that just… clicks. I was listening to a Mel Robbins podcast the other day, and she was interviewing this guy, Dr. Jay Doty. He’s a neurosurgeon, which is already intimidating, but he's also the founder of something called CCARE at Stanford. Long story short, he was talking about manifesting, and I have to be honest, I was a little skeptical. I always thought it was one of those "wish upon a star" things.
But this wasn't about magic. He talked about the actual science behind it, and it made so much sense. As a dad, I'm always trying to figure out how to be a better example for my kids, how to help them build good habits, and how to teach them to be resilient. This interview felt like a secret cheat code for all of that.
He talked about a few things that really hit home for me:
  1. Neuroplasticity: He explained that our brains aren't stuck in one way. We can literally change them. I've been thinking about this in terms of my own life—trying to be more patient, less reactive. If I can train my brain to be a better dad, that's a game-changer.
  2. Compassion as a Superpower: This was a big one. He said that practicing compassion, for yourself and others, actually makes you more open to opportunities and more resilient. I've been trying to teach my kids about kindness, but I never thought of it as a tool for personal growth. It's not just about being a good person; it's about making your brain a better place to live.
  3. The Manifesting Story: This is where it got really practical. He said you need to create a clear, detailed story of your future. It's not just "I want to be successful." It's "I want to be the kind of dad who is present for my kids' big moments, who teaches them to be kind, and who is still a happy, healthy person myself." It's about building a narrative that you can live into.
This interview was a serious wake-up call. It made me realize that manifesting isn't just about wishing for a new car; it's about intentionally building the life you want, one thought and one action at a time. It’s about being the kind of dad I want to be, and teaching my kids to do the same.
If you're a parent who's ever felt like you're just reacting to life instead of creating it, you have to listen to this. Mel does an amazing job of making a neurosurgeon's ideas accessible to a regular guy like me.

What do you think? Have you listened to it? What were your biggest takeaways?
